Tucking the pond in for the winter

Today we took the net off the pond, turned off the waterfall and buttoned up the pond for the winter.

Lunch with a friend

Today I had lunch with a friend from law school, whom I hadn't seen since graduation in 1998. It was fun getting together, but it made me realize how long ago that was. Many of the people she mentioned I couldn't even remember. I'm glad I went to law school, but I'm even more glad that I'm not a lawyer. My friend doesn't practice law either.

Feeling better

So all the drama and anxiety we had over Bobby at our house before traveling are over. I think he must not have felt well for a few days and then my anxiety fed Bobby's and it escalated from there.  He had a really good time at the kennel and the pictures showed it.

Home

Last night we flew home after spending the day at Animal Kingdom. We saw Festival of the Lion King which is a really great show, and then went on safari and had lunch in Asia.

One of the things I love the most about Disney is pin trading. Cast members wear lanyards with trade pins on them. They release sets of mystery pins and the goal is to collect certain sets. I love the hunt. I was able to complete a set from 5 years ago just the other day. Here are some of my pins.

I'll miss the sun and the fun but I'm glad to be home.

Epcot!

Yesterday we went to Epcot. It was the last day of the Food and Wine Festival. We had conch salad in Puerto Rico and crème brûlée in France. We tried grapefruit beer in Germany and it was delicious.

Then we had dinner in Mexico and then off to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party for the evening.

Hoop Dee Doo

Last night we went to the Hoop Dee Doo Review. It was a hoot.

It's warm again

We are here in Africa. OK not really. We are at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, one of our favorite places.

Blarg!

I forgot to post yesterday. But I was pretty busy. The highlight was taking a nap on the couch with my favorite dogs.

I wish dogs could talk -- sometimes

Lately Bobby has been distressing me with his behavior. He is acting really anxious about something and we cannot figure out what. The night it started I thought it was bloat - after dinner he was pacing, panting, kept jumping up on me - so we rushed him to the vet. We have seen 3 different vets over 5 different appointments and he has a clean bill of health, physically. This is good but it hasn't stopped his clinginess. He jumps on me, shivering and panting, while I'm sitting in the kitchen. He's not happy or relaxed unless I'm in the living room on the couch or chair with him, or in bed with him. We have given him herbal calming treats and his Comfort Zone spray is arriving this afternoon. This morning he's showing a little improvement. He hasn't jumped up on me in an hour or so and he even played a little with me and with Lilo.

This kind of thing is so hard to figure out. It doesn't help that soon he's going to the kennel for a short stay. I tend to worry about them anyway and I'm desperate to get his anxiety under control before we drop him off. I have considered that maybe he's picking up on my anxiety and is trying to lead me to the living room so that I'll relax, because when he does, I do.

Election Day!

I'm not going to say anything about the election other than I hope you voted early and often.

We voted early this morning. And then went out to breakfast where we finished Sunday's crossword puzzle.

I took a picture of my completed ballot, but I'm not allowed to post it here as it's against the law. How that isn't a violation of my first amendment rights, I don't know. They are fighting it in the courts and I expect it to be overturned.

At the vet with Lilo

I'm sitting in the waiting room of a place I expect to become very familiar with over the next couple of months.

Last year, Lilo had a cancerous tumor removed from her side. A year later, at a routine follow-up appointment our vet found a new lump growing in the same spot. It was removed and found to be the same kind of cancer, only a lot more aggressive.

The plan is for Lilo to undergo a series of radiation treatments to kill any left over cells that weren't removed. We will be coming here every day for three weeks to get that treatment. She's here today for some preliminary tests to make sure she doesn't have any cancer growing elsewhere in her body. We're hoping for a clear report.

I just heard from the vet and she has a nodule on her spleen so they're going to aspirate it so we know what we're dealing with. Results by Wednesday. While this is not news I wanted to hear, the vet did say that the spleen regenerates itself and can develop regenerative nodules which are benign, and she said that the nodule didn't look like anything to worry about.

Novem-brrr

This morning we went out to breakfast. It is a blustery, gray day so sitting next to the fire at Parker's Maple Barn was just the ticket. I had poached eggs on English muffins and they were yummy. It's a good Sunday to stay inside and cuddle up with a good movie.

I even wore my fingerless mittens today for the first time. I love how they look just like my dogs. I'll have to put the link to the Etsy store up.

The past few days, Bobby has been feeling punky. He has been through every test and we couldn't find anything wrong. Today he is feeling more like himself, so that's good.

November Blog posting month

It's a pretty dismal day.

I'm testing a new-to-me app for posting blog entries. I'm going to try to make one a day and revive this old blog.

There are a lot of things going on this month so I don't expect to be at a loss for words.

I'm using the technique I learned in my class with Jari Sheese to make this series of desktop cairns. I'm enjoying making beads that look like rocks and the other half of the fun is deciding what order to stack them in.
